The studies at the Faculty of Chemistry have a three cycle programme:
The first cycle (Bsc) full-time studies last 3.5 years (7 semesters).
The graduate obtains the title of an Engineer (Bachelor of Science).
The second cycle (Msc) studies last additional 3 semesters (1.5 years).
Students are awarded the title of Master of Science.
The third cycle studies are four year doctoral studies.

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry explores the nature and properties of substances which build the world around us. It deals with substance transformations and explores their conditions and effects. For centuries humankind has been investigating nature’s secrets step by step and the curiosity about the surrounding world gave rise to the appearance of the profession of a chemist ages ago. Despite the passage of time chemistry faces more and more challenges and there are no areas of life unaffected by it – production of food, pharmaceuticals, clothing, transport and communication, energy – the list has no end.
The programme of studies offered by the faculty introduces students to the amazing world of chemistry, it teaches how to investigate and create new compounds, and develops qualities necessary for scientific and engineering work – precision, curiosity, the problem solving, perseverance and the ability to work in a group.

It is possible to obtain a diploma at full-time first cycle (bachelor) studies in:

• chemical in quality control and environment protection
• organic synthesis
• computational chemistry and physicochemistry
• biological chemistry
• chemistry and physics of polymers

It is possible to obtain a diploma at full-time second cycle (masters) studies in:

• analytical and structural chemistry
• physicochemical techniques and calculation techniques in chemistry, biology and medicine
• medical chemistry
• chemistry and physics of polymers
• modern organic synthesis and analysis

NANOTECHNOLOGY

Nanotechnology is a word which refers to designing and investigating materials and systems at the nano level. Nanotechnology has huge influence on the surrounding world: from solar batteries, through synthetic materials, fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, material s ground to powder, to molecular optoelectronics.
The programme of the first and the second cycle studies (bachelor/masters) develops students’ competencies and their ability to apply an interdisciplinary perspective in problem solving. This is what makes the Nanotechnology programme different from the traditional way of perceiving the world from one point of view only - it leads you into various aspects of nanotechnology, it teaches to think and supports overall development.

It is possible to obtain a diploma at full-time first cycle (bachelor) studies in:

• polymer engineering materials
• functional nanomaterials

The second cycle (masters) studies are not divided into specializations.

CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY

Chemical technology deals with methods of transforming various raw materials into products. It catalyzes progress by introducing new products and technologies or modernization and optimization of conditions in which known processes are carried out.
By studying Chemical Technology students gain competencies allowing them to develop new and to change old production methods. We will teach you how to manage a team working in production, doing Research & Development, or performing administrative tasks and how to solve various technical problems. We will also equip you with theoretical and practical knowledge on how to run your own enterprise.

It is possible to obtain a diploma at full-time first cycle (bachelor) studies in:
• inorganic chemical technology
• organic chemical technology
• biomaterials and radiation engineering
• technology of dyes and household chemicals
• polymer technology

It is possible to obtain diploma at full-time second cycle (masters) studies in:
• industrial catalysis
• technology of drug and pesticide development
• biomedical and radiation engineering
• polymer technology
• technology of dyes, auxiliary agents and household chemicals

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Environmental protection is a phrase which was created when it was discovered that the changes made by humans are a threat to themselves. Environmental protection is crucial to our life and health. As a science it combines chemistry, biology, ecology, technology and ethics.
The programme of the studies was designed for graduates who plan to start a career in environmental protection services, sewage treatment plants, waterworks, waste treatment and recycling facilities and in national and local government administration. That is why it develops students’ competencies not only directly connected with environmental protection, but also with economy, law, planning, development and implementation of capital projects and using computer graphics for illustrating the state of the environment.

It is possible to obtain a diploma at full-time first cycle (bachelor) studies in:
• environmental protection technologies
• environmental analytics and monitoring

It is possible to obtain a diploma at full-time second cycle (masters) studies in:
• sewage treatment and water purification technologies
• environmental management and monitoring
• photochemical and radiation methods in environmental

CHEMISTRY OF BUILDING MATERIALS

It is a unique programme of studies created to fulfill specific labour market needs, realized in cooperation with AGH University of Science and Technology and Gdańsk University of Technology.
It allows students to gain specialist knowledge in the field of materials engineering, technology and chemical analytics in t he area of components, materials and composites used in construction industry. The programme puts strong emphasis on subjects from the field of engineering which prepare students for their future careers and on acquisition of management and logistic skills. Studying at the three universities which specialize in the fields of: polymer materials (Lodz University of Technology), ceramics (AGH University of Science and Technology) and chemical analytics (Gdańsk University of Technology), guarantees of obtaining knowledge at the highest level.

Another important thing is getting to know the atmosphere of studying in such different cities as Łódź, Kraków and Gdańsk. This option offers full-time first cycle (bachelor) studies, not divided into specializations.
