Active educational methods

As part of its educational activities, the Faculty of Chemistry of Lodz University of Technology also focuses on implementing innovative teaching methods (https://p.lodz.pl/en/education/active-educational-methods), such as:

  • PBL (Problem-Based Learning), CT (Case Teaching),

  • FE (Flipped Education),

  • ChBL (Challenge-Based Learning),

moving away from the traditional lecture-based approach to teaching and thereby ensuring the development of competencies highly valued in the labour market, such as critical thinking, independence, teamwork, the ability to work under time pressure, and the capacity to operate in interdisciplinary environments.

A competency examination plays a particularly important role in the study programmes offered by the Faculty of Chemistry at Lodz University of Technology. Its purpose is to verify the programme learning outcomes. The examination is conducted in the form of a case study, and Lodz University of Technology is the only university in Poland that confirms the quality of awarded qualifications in such a comprehensive manner. In practice, the competency examination involves analysing descriptions of selected real-life situations relevant to a given field of study, together with all the challenges and aspects arising from their complexity. Students answer questions in both written and oral forms. The examination is assessed by a dedicated committee, which must include a representative of the Programme Council responsible for the academic supervision of the degree programme.
